Just another day in Roma

I made it to class for day two. We are doing really cool things to help learn this language. Besides having to speak only in italian we do neat activities. Today was a really tough one, we listened to an incredibly fast conversation between two italians yesterday. Today, we had to listen to a few senteances over and over writing down words as we caught them and eventually forming sentences. We worked in groups, then as a whole class to try to piece together what they were saying on the tape. This might not sound hard but they talked SO fast, I mean crazy fast, as a class we listened to it probably 12 times and even then we missed a word or two.

After class I went to the National Museum of Rome. It was pretty neat, although I would rather be in a church or out on the streets to see Rome. They had mostly ancient sculptures of people like Augustus, Hadrian, and Apollo. My favorite part was the second floor which had frescos and mosaics that were recovered from Roman Villas. They were so beautiful and colorful. I got some ideas for future housing decor. I am currently studying my bus map to avoid walking such a crazy walk again. The Rome bus system is daunting and huge, but I feel like I can figure it out. For such a huge city they only have two metro lines. Weird until you realize that every time they try to dig a new tunnel they discover more ancient ruins. After all people have been living here for a pretty long time, and there are lots of layers of life they left behind.

I also finally bought a hair dryer and a curling iron, although I regret leaving mine at home. The only iron I found isn't quite right, way too small. There is no Target or CVS here, it is hard to find these sorta of things. I found it at something resembling a dollar store, but a nice dollar store. Kinda like a very small Co-op. I will be totally shocked when I get home and go into Target or Wal-Mart after this!
